The official Bala Bateekh t-shirt by @saffronandhoneybakery and @nada.bakes is here.
At last summer’s supper club we printed a limited number of t-shirts to raise money for aid relief in Gaza. We sold out of the shirts in minutes, and those sales were donated to The Ghassan Abu Sittah Children’s Fund.
So we asked @lonotore.art for her take on the design, which has been embroidered onto a 100% cotton shirt. And we’ll be sending all sales of the new and improved line directly to our families on the ground in Gaza, who are best placed to distribute to those in need. With the ongoing aid restrictions applied in Gaza, we believe this is the quickest way to get help to those who need it.
The concept behind the design is that it’s inspired by a Palestinian idiom ‘bala __, bala bateekh’, which literally translates to ‘without __, without watermelon’. It is often used to dismiss something that sounds like nonsense, as if to say ‘yeah, right’, or ‘forget about it’!
Anyone who bought one of the original shirts but wants to upgrade to the new design, please DM us for £10 off. T-shirts are being produced as we speak and should be ready to ship by Feb 2026.
And as always: Bala I$ra3l, Bala Bateekh.
